Calendar Girls has become the fastest selling play in British theatre history and is based on the true story of eleven Women's Institute members who posed nude for a calendar to raise money for the Leukaemia Research Fund.
It begins when Annie's husband John dies of leukaemia and she and her best friend Chris resolve to raise money for a new sofa in the local hospital waiting room. The two ladies manage to persuade four other fellow Women's Institute members to pose nude with them for an "alternative" calendar fundraiser with a little help from shy hospital porter and amateur photographer Lawrence.
The news of the women's charitable venture spreads like wildfire, and soon hordes of Press descend on the small Yorkshire village. Even though the calendar quickly becomes a huge success, Chris and Annie's friendship is put to the test under the strain of their new-found fame
