Hans Juergen Tode was born in Libau, Russia (Latvia) on December 30, 1906. In 1951 he immigrated from Germany and settled in Corner Brook with his wife Ingrid, daughter Heidi and son Wolfe who was born while escaping from Poland.
In 1951, he began to work at the cement plant and both Hans and Ingrid joined the Corner Brook Playmakers in an attempt to learn the English language. For 23 years, they worked with the group with joy, dedication and hard work. His work was perfection and the trophy established in his honour truly belongs to him. He died in 1974.
